Rainforest Hike
Explore a Precious Environment!
The Rainforest Walk is a guided excursion into the majestic and memorable Iao Valley. You will follow ancient footpaths across Iao Stream with a guide who will share the lore and legend of this historic location. A moderate loop trail, it features native and introduced Hawaiian plants and the remains of ancient habitation. More than a hike, it is an information-filled adventure that will enhance your appreciation and understanding of Hawaii. The culturally rich and lush property on which our hike is conducted is available through a generous, low-cost lease arrangement with C. Brewer and Wailuku Agribusiness. These lease rights have made possible a unique educational experience for visitors and residents alike.
Please call ahead to make a reservation for a Rainforest Walk. They can be booked at 11:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m.
Walkers must be five years old or older. Please wear closed-toe shoes suitable for an uneven trail.
Cost for the Rainforest Walk is $19.95 for adults and $9.95 for children.

The Hawai`i Nature Center’s Maui location in `Iao Valley has unique, convenient, and affordable group lodging. By staying with us, your group helps to support environmental education programs at the Hawai`i Nature Center. Located just two miles from the historic town of Wailuku, between two cultural parks, our site is a convenient place to stay on Maui.
We have the experience to create a memorable visit in our remodeled 1955 era hotel and education center, surrounded by 35 acres of conservation land. On site hiking trails, stream side strolls, Interactive Nature Museum, and lunch café provide something for everyone.
Environmental education programs can be incorporated into your stay with us such as a morning stream science program, an afternoon hike, or an evening “talk story” campfire. Many groups enjoy offering some of their time to a service project. Whether pulling invasive species, planting, or building bridges, many hands help to maintain the conservation land surrounding the Hawaii Nature Center. These hands on experiences build camaraderie and the virtues of teamwork while giving back to the land.
Our lodging can comfortably accommodate up to 42 people. If your group exceeds this number, please call and ask if we can make special arrangements for you. Our rooms are furnished with bunk beds, table and chairs, and a private bathroom. Please bring your sleeping bag, sheets (optional), towel, and toiletries and settle in for nature at its best, Maui style.
Groups have the option of renting additional space for meetings, parties, etc. Our conference room is furnished with a table that seats 10, sofa, reference library, cable television and DVD player.
Please note that the closest shops and services are three miles away, so please plan accordingly. We have an on site café that is open daily for lunch. Special arrangements can be made for catered breakfast or dinner with advance notice of 3 days or more.
