The Hawai'i Nature Center is dedicated to:
  • Fostering awareness, appreciation and understanding of Hawai'i and its natural environment
  • Teaching Hawai'i's young people about their environment
  • Encouraging wise stewardship of precious Island ecosystems
  • Providing a unique and educational experience for visitors to the Islands
"Since our modest beginnings as a project of the Outdoor Circle in 1981, more than 800,000 children and adults have participated in environmental education programs at the Hawai'i Nature Center. We are recognized as the only organization in the State of Hawai'i solely dedicated to educating island children about their unique environment in the out-of-doors.

In addition to our school programs the Nature Center provides nature education programs for families and adults on weekends. These include guided interpretive hikes, nature adventures, earth care projects, and more. Our weekend and community programs have reached more than 25,000 island families a year on O'ahu and Maui.

By gently encouraging our young stewards to develop a respect for microscopic life and towering trees, we are confident that when these children become leaders and decision-makers, they will impress upon their community the importance of protecting their home environment.

On O'ahu and Maui, the Hawai'i Nature Center offers:
  • Hands-on field programs for preschool through 5th grade
  • Community programs for children and adults
  • Guided hikes for residents and visitors
  • Children's birthday parties in a natural setting
